Mahi magic: Dhoni’s ‘blind’ run-out to dismiss Ross Taylor is a delight to watch

On Wednesday, Dhoni’s role behind the stumps was put to test again and the 35-year-old gloveman passed with flying colours provind his mettle once again. (BCCI)

India’s limited-overs captain M S Dhoni is well-known for his skills behind the wicket. A simple YouTube search for ‘quickest stumping ever’ shows atleast twenty different videos which exhibits his magic with the glove.
On Wednesday, his role behind the stumps was put to test again and the 35-year-old gloveman passed with flying colours proving his mettle once again.
In the 46th over, Yadav was bowling to an out-of-form Ross Taylor, who was gearing up for the last-few-over-fireworks to take New Zealand to a decent total.
Taylor swung his bat and the ball raced towards fine leg. Dhawal Kulkarni put in a commendable dive and sent the ball back in a flash to Dhoni, who was still walking towards the wicket.
The ball landed awkwardly and Dhoni in one quick motion half-collected, half-deflected the ball onto the stumps without looking at the wickets.
Taylor who was attempting the second run had to take the long walk back.
Take a look at the magic moment here.
Although New Zealand went on to win the game, that didn't stop Twitterati from gushing about their hero's extraordinary fielding ability.

8 Secret techniques you can use to find your dream startup team

Starting a new enterprise with like-minded people who can walk with you through thick and thin is not always easy. If you consider your startup to be like a sports team, you will quickly realize that recruiting top talent is the key to winning. It’s often said, individuals don’t build great companies, and teams do. And as I am a big fan of Superheroes, I consider a startup team like the Avengers, a team of extraordinary Superheroes who are excellent individually but, if they have to change the world they need to partner together and take advantage of each other’s strengths.
The company with the best Superheroes will win. This will be the team which comprises of the most talented people, channel them in the most productive configuration and get the most output from their unique capabilities.
I have always been posed with questions such as how do you recruit? How did you find your co-founder? When I was starting GOQii, we were entering an unknown and unexplored sector of health, fitness and wearables, and there were no real ‘qualified’ people available. And I am not a big believer of conventional methods like LinkedIn, Consultants, Naukri, etc. especially to put together a top management team. However, over the last two years, I am proud to say that we have been able to put together an amazing team of such mavericks. I am sharing some of those methods!
Talk to strangers
Talking to strangers is an art. Seldom, you find someone interesting and end up conversing with that person. But, when you are an entrepreneur or planning to be one, then talking to strangers might just help you find someone interesting who might suit your company. I try and strike conversation with interesting people during my travels- at the airport or in a hotel lobby or in a restaurant. Sometimes these interactions have proved fruitful and at times have not worked. It’s during one such travels in 2013 that I met Luke Coutinho on an airplane. He was sitting next to me and my curious mind was telling I should get to know him. As I got talking to him I found that is an expert in health, nutrition and fitness. During our conversation I learnt and understood a lot at a time when I had nothing to do with the health sector. A year later the GOQii idea came and I immediately remembered him. Today, Luke Coutinho is the Master Coach at GOQii. He has been instrumental in guiding all the coaches on board and also in creating the coaching module. He encourages and helps people steer away from conventional medicine and uses natural foods. He believes lifestyle change helps and he coaches people to make shift in their lifestyle to achieve their health goals.
Give a real-world test
While skills are vital, a person’s attitude or mindset is more important for success. Somebody with the right attitude, according to me, is genuinely interested and can think ahead of the game, has lots of ideas, and is constantly seeking ways to improve things. I am flooded with resumes of people keen to work with me. To most, I say let’s meet at 6 am in the morning for a run on a Sunday and the obvious happens – most don’t turn up. But, one person did when I said let’s meet for a run at Juhu beach at 6am on Sunday. Krishna Kumar aka KK, who has a passion for brands, mountains and startups was there bang on time at 6 am. We ran for an hour and chatted over health, fitness etc. People with the right attitude can think ahead and take positive views of things and want to contribute. Add to that person’s experience also matters.  KK has immense experience in advertising and digital marketing. Apart from being an experienced advertising and media man, KK is also an avid mountaineer who has scaled 6000+ mountains. It’s his friendly attitude that he gets his way with people. At GOQii, KK is responsible for overall marketing strategy and consumer engagement.
Always be ready to help entrepreneurs
Being an entrepreneur myself, I have other budding entrepreneurs getting in touch with me for mentoring and guidance. You never know who would be helpful and when. I met Champ aka Chirag Alreja for the first time at a TIE event in 2012. Champ was running his own company then called ‘HitPlay’ and he would often get in touch with me for guidance. He was radical in his thoughts and meticulous in execution. He was a creative engineer who had been developing and delivering tech toys since many years. When the idea of GOQii came up, I knew Champ would be the right person with whom I could take this idea forward. He had a good understanding of customer requirements and could develop products at affordable prices. He understood hardware well and what works. I called Champ when he was on a vacation and asked him if he would be interested in starting a health tech venture along with me. He came on board as the COO and is totally the man behind the hardware that GOQii launched. He is also an avid Tennis player and believes in fitness.
Reward Loyalty, Integrity and Capability
Most senior people when they move from one organization to another they generally take their brigade from their previous organization with them. But, I did not believe in doing that after I moved out of Indiagames. I have always believed take only those who seem a right fit for what you are planning to do next. Sachin Janghel was one such guy from Indiagames I knew for a long time with experience in games and interactive application development on various mobile, online, social networking platform. When I decided on GOQii, Sachin was the go to man for all technology building. Hence, he is the only person I hired from Indiagames because I saw a perfect fit with what GOQii wanted to do. Sachin, is the CTO and the man responsible for all technology behind the GOQii Ecosystem.
Do good Karma
I have always believed that when you do good towards others it sooner or later pays you back well. In general, what goes around comes around. One such story is that of how I met and got on board Abhishek Sharma, Chief Marketing Officer at GOQii. The story dates back to 2012 London Olympics. I had two tickets for the Opening Ceremony and I wasn’t sure what I would do with one spare ticket that I had. I could have sold it, but instead I had other plans. On FB, I found a distant cousin Meghna who I hadn’t met in almost two decades and asked her if she would be interested in watching the game with me. She was delighted to come but during the event mentioned her husband is a big fan of basketball and so wished he could see the same. So later that week I did some juggling and got a ticket to the basketball game and met Abhishek to give him the ticket over coffee. During that meeting I learned, Abhishek is a fitness product expert with several years of experience with leading global brands such as Nike in India, US and UK, where he led diverse products. Also, he is a strong believer in the principle of sustainability and social development and has collaborated with various global non-profits organizations on key social projects. He was just the right person for a company like GOQii that was entering into health and fitness space. Moreover, thanks to his experience with NGOs we came up with the concept of karma points. At GOQii, Abhishek is in charge of all marketing and Karma initiatives.
Love thy Neighbour
CFO is of prime importance to any organisation. I knew Srini aka Srinivasan Sawamy as my neighbour and my building secretary for the longest time. We met during our society functions and society meetings. One day, I got talking to him and he consulted me regarding his finance startup. Srini was the numbers man armed with a CA degree and was launching a company that would outsource CFO functions to the SME sector. He had in-depth understanding of profitability and growth drivers and has extensively worked on financial planning and data analysis. When GOQii was in its launch phase, I contacted him and we talked business for a bit and about his next role. I asked him whether he would like to handle the finance operations of GOQii. He was the ideal man who had good control of the cash flow. I could not have found a better man than him to handle a startup like ours.
Interview those who interview you
Sometimes it helps to be good friends with a journalist. Anusha Subramanian is an award winning journalist and I have known for many years. We met professionally many a times and she has interviewed or quoted me in her stories related to technology, startups, gaming, etc. Over a period of time, I realised she is an avid outdoor sports enthusiast and learnt she is a trained mountaineer. When GOQii idea was being worked upon, I also wanted a repository of blogs to build a strong content base related to health, fitness and nutrition. Anusha had just quit her long stint in mainstream journalism and that is when I called and asked her what she thought of the idea of GOQii and would she be interested in writing and building the blog site. I saw a good connect with her skills for writing and additionally her interest in fitness and outdoor sports. Anusha is the Senior Content Editor at GOQii Blog and has built a large repository of content across the areas of health, fitness, nutrition, player stories and the list now includes medical blogs as well.
Be realistic and believe in the power of serendipity
Painting a rosy picture about your company just when you are starting off is a natural thing to do. One does that so that the company attracts the best of talent. But, I always thought otherwise and have always portrayed the real picture about our company. Window dressing your company can eventually prove disastrous. So when the time came to hire a people’s person (HR head), it set me thinking what do I say. The situation at GOQii was chaotic, so I posted on a social media site – looking for someone who can handle chaos. Suzaina Basheer replied back ‘I am the person who can handle chaos’. We met and she was totally a people’s person. I only told her ‘you need to put a method to all the madness here’.
Similarly, Connie D’souza who handles market research and consumer insights at GOQii came on board by chance. Her brother used to follow me on Twitter and I met him of all the places during the Amsterdam marathon. We got talking and I mentioned to him about GOQii. He heard me out and mentioned he has a sister who is into market research. I met Connie. She had limited experience and we were a startup so realised it’s a good fit as we could all walk the learning curve together. Connie came on board for a month as intern and her first task was to go on foot with a piece of paper and gather consumer insights, what they thought of the product etc. She came up with some interesting insights and thereafter she came on board as our lead researcher for delivering better consumer experience.
These are my superheroes who I have brought together. Their powers vary widely; but their ability to fly, enhanced capabilities and their projection of energy bolts are all common. Together we are working towards disruptive ideas to change the whole health and wellness game. Apart from these superheroes, I would like to point out how unconventional methods of hiring people sometimes just gets you the right mix of people across varied backgrounds. Many of my other hires at GOQii have also been in very unconventional ways. I have thrown challenges based on what they have said in their resume. If someone said they are a very good chess player, I have thrown a challenge of playing a game with the best chess player in office. Someone had said he does 50 pushups in 30 sec so made him do push-ups. The idea was to gauge the attitude and the diligence of a person during such processes.

Panasonic develops a invisible glass pane television

Imagine a TV that looks like glass and can be fit into your furniture’s glass panes. Panasonic has developed a protoype of an “invisible” TV which generates bright, clear images as normal TVs. According to tech website Engadget, Panasonic has improved the image quality in the new prototpye. “The OLED screen is made from a fine mesh, embedded into the glass sliding door,” the report added.
The TV image is visible even with the backlighting on. Once it’s dimmed, the image is bright enough to be almost indistinguishable from existing TV sets. The screen shifts between “transparent mode” where you can see the shelving behind it, and “screen mode”, where you can see the screen.
“Because the display is on a railing, you can move it up and down the shelf for even greater customisability,” Engadget reported. According to Panasonic, the television is likely to hit the market in the next three years.

Great White Shark Cage Breach Accident

While he was inside a cage in the ocean, a great white shark forced its way in. It's tough to watch, but it's all on cameras.

The shark didn't intend to attack.

It was reportedly biting a line on which a piece of tuna was fixed as bait report international sites.

"When a great white shark lunges and bites something, it is temporarily blinded. They also cannot swim backwards. So this shark lunged at the bait, accidentally hit the side of the cage, was most likely confused and not able to swim backwards, it thrust forward and broke the metal rail of the cage," described the man who posted the video on YouTube.

Witnesses on a boat managed to open the top of the cage, from which the shark swam back into the ocean.

The footage shows the diver who was stuck inside the cage with the shark then making his way out off an island in Mexico.

"The diver is a very experienced dive master, remained calm, and when the shark thrashed back outside the cage, the diver calmly swam back up and climbed out completely uninjured," said the man who posted the video.

This is How You Can Speed Up Your Metabolism to Lose Weight

This is How You Can Speed Up Your Metabolism to Lose Weight

A few months ago I got myself tested in the gym for fat percentage, BMI and the works. I was informed that my metabolism mirrored that of a 40 year old. My trainer wasn't pleased and quite frankly, neither was I. After working out for months, spending most of my mornings shuttling between weights and the treadmill, I was only a few inches smaller and the weighing scale almost untouched. Frustrated, I marched to a nutritionist's office and two weeks later, BAM! I was two kilos lighter without having to give up what I eat.
She told me that despite the exercise, a number of factors were working against me. My diet, sleep patterns and my brain which wouldn't let my body waver from what it considers my 'normal weight', the one I've been at for most part of my life. All of this boiled down to one word - metabolism. The M word was my biggest enemy and the doctor, my best ally.

What does metabolism really mean?

Mayo Clinic defines metabolism as "The process by which your body converts what you eat and drink into energy. During this complex biochemical process, calories in food and beverages are combined with oxygen to release the energy your body needs to function." In simple words, your body's metabolic rate determines a lot of the calories you burn in a day. So if it's sluggish for some reason, you won't be burning as many calories as you're supposed to.

Science suggests that your basic metabolic rate accounts for about 70 per cent of the calories you burn every day. Now, if your metabolism is sluggish like mine, your body will not burn calories the way it's supposed to and instead of expending calories, store them as fat. And the slower your metabolism, the fewer number of calories you need to consume to avoid gaining weight. Let me explain by means of an example, let's say you consume 2000 calories every day and burn 2000 calories as well. There's no weight gain, but also no weight-loss. But what if you ate 1200 calories? It's not only the number of calories you eat that's important but how many you burn as well. Exercise helps burn a considerable amount but your metabolism is responsible for the rest. And starving yourself might help with weight-loss today but in the long run, it'll sharply drop your metabolic rate, causing all that weight to come back.

Busting some myths about metabolism:

1. Metabolism is linked to your genes - Absolutely not says Dr. Anshu Jaibharat, Delhi-based nutritionist. "Metabolism isn't genetic and with the right kind of guidance can most certainly be changed."

2. Good metabolism does not mean you lose weight quicker- If you consume more calories than your body needs, no matter how efficient your metabolism is, you will not lose weight.

3. Metabolism doesn't change over time - Metabolism changes depending on the lifestlye you keep. If you exercise regularly and eat balanced meals, you can make a real change to your body's metabolism.

What can cause your metabolism to flat-line?

Before we get into how your metabolism dips, here's a great chart that'll help you identify your sluggish metabolism.

Your metabolism could be suffering for any number of reasons but some of the most important ones are:

1. Sleep - According to the European Food Information Council, "Sleep deprivation can certainly lower your metabolism by triggering a set of undesirable changes in the body. If you sleep less, your body grows to be more intolerant towards glucose, and there is an increase in your appetite or cravings for refined and high-energy foods which often lead to weight gain.
2. Stress - Stress can lower your body's metabolic rate causing weight gain. How exactly? According to research conducted by the Ohio State University and published in the journal Biological Psychiatry, your body metabolises slower under stress and the types of food you crave when you're stressed are also high in fat and sugar. It's especially harmful to women. If that's the case, then why do some people believe that stress helps with weight-loss? Elizabeth Walling, author of 'The Nourished Metabolism' terms this as the 'feel-good phase'. The stress hormone can make you feel good in the short term, even reduce inflammation and solve a variety of health issues. Over time, the stress hormones break down proteins from the muscles and bones, your lean tissue wears out slowly. That's when you can spot symptoms like poor digestion, mood swings and weight gain, especially in the abdominal region.
3. Nutrition - Dr. Anshu Jaibharat adds, "Eat well balanced meals, food that's in season, healthy and home-made in good quantity. When you eat less than what your body needs, your brain detects that it's getting lesser energy and reduces the speed of the fuelling cycle. Also, don't leave long gaps between meals because it drops your blood sugar which could also slow down the metabolism." What you want in a diet is a balance of carbohydrates, proteins and fats, which work together to promote a nourished metabolism says Elizabeth Walling.
4. Dieting - Crash dieting, the kind where you deprive your body of food, at least the amount you should be eating, could do more harm than good. At first you may feel good about the inch loss but muscle loss will soon follow.

5. Water - It's often said that drinking a lot of water is great for quick weight loss but that's not entirely true. Yes, it's important to remain hydrated but the frequency and sources of water also have a huge role to play. Your need for water depends on your lifestyle. If you're more active you'll need more water versus someone's who's sedentary. You don't just need regular water but also enriched in electrolytes that you lose during the day. Which is why things like lemonade, orange juice, electral are great ways to keep yourself healthy and hydrated.

Your Guide to Radiant Skin: 3 Expert Ayurvedic Tips

Your Guide to Radiant Skin: 3 Expert Ayurvedic Tips

It is an inherent need and desire to look good and feel wonderful. However, daily stress, pollution and the natural ageing process can take a heavy toll on our hair and skin. Across the world, we are witnessing a return to natural, organic solutions for our hair and skin care woes as we genuinely crave to reduce the chemicals we have to use. Ayurveda, the ancient practice of elements which restore balance to our body, is more than just lip service and has a well thought through approach to natural beauty and wellness solutions. Ayurvedic formulas not only help your skin to be healthy but also rejuvenate it. Ayurveda is the most natural form of care and it makes you look good by cleansing from the inside, leaving you feeling more invigorated.
This ancient 5000-year-old Indian science is meant for a healthy body, beautiful skin and a calmer mind. It has many health and wellness properties for skin problems likeacne, pimples during teenage years and aging skin for adults. Ayurveda is a long term solution for healthy skin, hair and overall wellness.

Skin care tips based on Ayurvedic remedies help in getting maximum results with no side effects. It is best to utilize this easy yet powerful knowledge to get good, healthy, glowing skin. However, the efficacy of Ayurveda also depends on the source of materials used. It is not enough to just use natural and Ayurvedic products but also to be particular about the source they originate from, and how ethically they are sourced. This can be a predictor of how much they will actually help you in your beauty and wellness journey.

Listed below are a few tips that can help you get healthy and glowing skin:

1. Keep it clean - Increasing pollution levels and toxins present in the products we consume harm the skin more than one can realize. The damage is silent and can affect one's health and skin in the long run, making it more prone to skin problems andallergies. Therefore, it's important to regularly cleanse the body from inside and out. Use face washes that are suitable for your skin type and are free from harsh cleansers like SLS/SLES which can strip your skin of natural oils. Herbs like neem and nutgrass are good for oily skin while honey and rose are more suited for dry skin. On a regular basis use a deep cleanser and you may be surprised to know that oil based cleansers are gentle yet highly effective in removing dirt and grime which can block the pores. Above all, drink plenty of water and detox yourself by eating herbs like Triphala and Guggul.

2. Heal yourself - Ayurveda views beauty problems as health anomalies and therefore seeks to heal them rather than artificially repair them.Turmeric, for example, has great medicinal and healing properties and is used in many Ayurvedic formulations. It's an old tradition to have milk with turmeric to accelerate recovery from an injury. Similarly, external application of turmeric can help repair skin damage caused by excessive exposure to harsh sun or wind, aloe vera can soothe irritated skin and Manjishta can restore radiance. For cracked lips, you can use a little bit of Ghee.

3. Nurture and protect - Healthy skin can be our best defense, both against external factors as well as the natural process of ageing. However, with the right habits it's possible to look our best at all stages of our life. An ideal regime should boost our immunity and replace elements that may be lost during the course of our daily life. Oils have an important role to play. Full of natural fatty acids and minerals, oils like sesame, almond and coconut can restore vitality and suppleness to the skin and strength to the hair. On the other hand, herbs like tulsi and amla are full of natural antioxidants that boost our immunity and should be part of both our dietary regime and skin care.
As far as possible use organic oils and herbs as they ensure you get 100% nutrients and are protected from heavy metals and pesticides.

Swiss power to drive India growth: From hydroelectricity to 600 kilowatt flash charge in 15 seconds

Inside the Grimsel-2 hydro power plant

he picturesque Grimsel, tucked away some 2,100 metres above sea level in the snow-capped Swiss Alps, with its long-winding mountain roads and occasional lush green valleys, is not just a vacationer's delight. It is also home to hydro power plants that draw upon the abundant water in the mountains to generate electricity throughout the year.
The Oberhasli Hydroelectric Power Company or KWO, with a storage reservoir capacity of 200 million cubic meters, has nine power plants in the Grimsel region, generating 1125 MW of power.
One of the power plants also showcases an innovation masterstroke in conserving precious natural resources, thanks to a new technology from the $35.5 billion ABB, a leader in power and automation technologies, which has teamed up with KWO for the project.
POWER INNOVATION
The Grimsel 2 hydro power plant, technically called a pump storage plant, works like a battery. When the demand for power is high, water from the reservoir is released, which meets turbines 400 metres further down the rock face and generates electricity.
When there is excess electricity produced and demand is low, water is pumped back to the reservoir. The process has been made more efficient using a 100 MW convertor from ABB, which regulates the speed of the pump, and hence, the power consumption.
"This is the largest power convertor for hydro pump application, the most powerful with 100 MW, comparable to 1,000 cars," says Ernst Roth, an official with the power conversion division of ABB, at its unit in Turgi in the Swiss Canton of Aargau, which boasts of state-of-the-art processes in engineering, supply chain management and production.
More than 1,000 elements of power electronics ensure that the pumps are regulated correctly to maintain the overall stability of the power grid.
ABB's innovations such as the power convertors have big applications in energy storage, especially at a juncture, where power generation from wind and solar is gaining huge traction across the world.

An official from TPG, ABB's partner for TOSA electric bus, which charges

fully in 15 seconds, explains the technology to visiting media.

THE INDIA CONNECTION
India, where the company's local arm generated Rs 8,140 crore in revenues in 2015, for instance, has ambitious plans to increase solar capacity to roughly 100 GW, double its wind capacity to 60 GW by 2022 and increase nuclear capacity to 63 GW by 2030.
"The ramp up of solar in India is mind boggling. It is coming up very quickly," says ABB CEO Ulrich Spiesshofer. The company is already providing power solutions to solar projects in India.
In June this year, it successfully commissioned five substations to integrate a 648 MW solar project at Kamuthi in Tamil Nadu to the national transmission grid. The project was awarded by independent power producer (IPP) Adani Group in 2015, and completed on schedule.
The solar photovoltaic project - made up of five plants in a single location - is the largest of its kind in the world.
"We have a fully localised value chain, and a strong team locally in India (of around 10,000 staff). Out of the 5 - 6 GW that is out there today, up and running, we have already run half, and see a double digit growth there in the years to come," Spiesshofer adds.
FOR MAKE-IN-INDIA
ABB is bringing large scale solar-based irrigation solutions for India, and is jointly working with the government on micro-grid solutions in the country. It is executing a multi-terminal UHVDC transmission link between North-East and Agra with 8,000 MW converter capacity.
Spiesshofer said that ABB is looking at India in a long term perspective, as it is one of the largest economies of the world.
"We are in India for over 100 years, offering our entire portfolio," he said, adding that significant investments are being made in infrastructure and utilities, mostly from the government.
"ABB is well positioned to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his 'Make in India' drive through our automation solutions," he said.

600 KILOWATT IN 15 SECONDS
In the transport sector, be it the Indian Railways and its electrification programme or the country's ambitious plans to become a fully electric vehicle nation by 2030, ABB sees business opportunities, just as it sees more business coming in from robotics as factories increasingly turn to automation to improve efficiency and productivity.
It, thus, plans to bring its TOSA (Trolleybus Optimisation Système Alimentation) technology for electric buses to India. This is the world's fastest flash-charging connection technology, taking less than a second to connect the bus to the charging point. The onboard batteries can then be charged in 15 seconds with a 600-kilowatt boost of power at the bus stop.
Spiesshofer also said that India is one of the key markets ABB would look for inorganic growth, and that the country has capabilities not only in engineering but in software applications, too. ABB Technology Ventures set up in 2009, is also keen to support start-up companies in India through venture capital funding.
